We are looking to hire a UNIX Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. In this role you will help to define strategy for our UNIX and Linux environment and support its implementation. This means you will bring new technology to the organization and help to implement and then operationalize it. . You will also form last line of defense for major incidents and help prevent outages, You will with environments on-premise, in IBM Cloud and AWS. Part of your role will be to collaborate and help supervise our technology partners, vendors, managed service providers.
What you will do
• Design, deploy, and administer UNIX / Linux based infrastructure
• Input into UNIX and Linux strategy and infrastructure roadmap
• Prepare project plans, provide estimates for project tasks, and assist with prioritization in relation to capacity planning and performance analytics.
• Collaborate with vendors, manage service providers and colleagues.
• Oversee operations, establish process and standard operating procedures
• Be the last line defense and escalation point for high severity production incidents
• Build OS images, patch bundles, scripts and automation
• Build CI/CD Pipelines
• Write code in Python/Ruby/Go and desired state for Chef/Ansible
Working Environment:
• Fully Remote (in the US) or hybrid in NYC Metro
• New team in a new engineering function. Plan for unexpected and for opportunities to set standards / policies. Also plan for frequent involvement in day-to-day incidents (operations) until you mature the environment.
• Global organization with colleagues from overseas and work engagements outside of core business hours
Basic Qualifications
• 5+ years in a similar role
• Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing with engineers, vendors, managers, business, clients.
• Ability to write standard operating procedures, documentation, strategy documents and roadmaps
• 2+ years of experience with AWS/Azure (EC2, S3, AMI, EBS, IAM, VPC)
• 5+ years of experience with VMware based virtualization
• Comfortable in several scripting languages (Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, etc).
• Understanding of SAN, multi-path and storage technologies
• 2+ years of experience with clustering technologies (Veritas / PCS)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Good understanding of centralized configuration management, orchestration, and infrastructure as code techniques (Ansible or Chef, Terraform)
• Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques (Jenkins)
• Kubernetes and container platforms (Openshift)
• Experience with Observability / Monitoring tooling - Datadog, Splunk, ELK
• 5+ years of experience with classic AIX or Solaris
• Experience with Zerto
• Experience with VMware vSphere products
• Good understanding of networking protocols including switching technologies, routing fundamentals, firewalls, IP subnets, firewalling, load balancing
